Palliative Care Research and Evidence in the COVID-19 Response: “What Did We Learn?”

Professor Richard Harding is the Herbert Dunhill Chair of Palliative Care and Rehabilitation, the Director of the Cicely Saunders Institute of Palliative Care, Policy and Rehabilitation, and the Vice Dean (International) of the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing Midwifery and Palliative Care at King’s College London. He is also the Director of the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre of Palliative Care, a trustee of Marie Curie, and Vice Chair of the Worldwide Hospice Palliative Care Alliance. Professor 

Harding originally trained in social sciences and social work and worked as an HIV palliative care manager before joining King’s on an NHS London-funded PhD scholarship in 1998. Since then, he has achieved success around the world working in the areas of research, education, policy influence and partnership collaboration with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and universities. He has a master’s degree in social policy and social work as well as a PhD in public health. 

His research focuses on the global health dimensions of palliative care (particularly in sub-Saharan Africa), outcome measures and intervention development and testing. He also has a strong interest in family caregiver outcomes.
