MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Volunteer in Programmes Management has a unique role in ensuring that APCA’s vision of ensuring access to palliative care for all in need across Africa is realised in practice.  He or she is responsible for contributing to programme development and implementation at APCA working together with other programme staff and the director. The role is aimed increasing an understanding of palliative care across Africa as well as strengthening health systems by integrating this form of care.

Reports to:  Programmes Director
Location: It is preferred that the post holder is based at the APCA Secretariat in Kampala, Uganda. However, the option of working remotely from any part of the world may be considered.

Key result areas and responsibilities

  • The Volunteer in Programmes Management is a hands on role and will support the Programmes Team in implementing diverse programme activities of the APCA Programmes Directorate including, designing, planning, implementation and reporting aspects.
  • Will ensure that APCA complies with all donor and statutory requirements in his/her role. This role will also involve coordinating and guiding programme development, planning and implementation process, based on funded work in alignment with APCA’s strategic plan.
  • Liaison with the other APCA staff to ensure that relevant technical input is provided to partners across Africa for programme development, planning and implementation and will provide supervision and programme management-related mentorship to programme officers at APCA and in partner organisations.
  • Prepare periodic narrative reports for the APCA management team, the board and for the donors.
  • Contribute to resource mobilisation to ensure continuity and sustainability of APCA’s work.
  • Contribute to establishing new partnerships for APCA and maintaining of existing partners.

Minimum Academic Qualifications
Master’s Degree in any management field including Social Sciences, Public Health, Development Studies or any other disciplines relevant to Programme Planning, Management and Development.

Required Skills

  • Skills in programmes development, project planning and management practiced for not less than 3 years.
  • Skilled in working in health related field is essential and having worked and /or lived in Africa is an added advantage.
  • A proven track record of successfully and ethically managing donor  funded projects in a reputable organisation.
  • Managing teams as a facilitative and inspirational leader.
  • Skilled in working with charitable entities or programmes is an added advantage.
