Research Volunteer

Support grant proposal development initiatives, engage in the designing and implementing research projects, data management, and analysis activities.  The exciting opportunity will also involve report writing, and write for peer review and lay evidence users’ audiences. The candidate will have an opportunity to take part in developing a novel knowledge translation strategies for palliative care, which are aimed at increasing the uptake of using evidence to inform policy and care practices. He/she will support the development of technical, and policy briefs and other useful resources for knowledge uptake. The post also involves capacity and mentorship of upcoming researchers in the region and supporting international level collaborations in research. 

Reports to:   Research Manager
The post holder can either be based at the APCA Secretariat in Kampala, Uganda or work remotely from any part of the world.

Key result areas and responsibilities

  • Support the designing of research projects and associated fundraising efforts for research activities

  • Play an active role in bringing on board new research partnerships and collaborators

  • Produce policy and practice briefs from research to inform policy development and practice improvement

  • Engage in capacity building for APCA’s partners in the area of research

  • Support APCA staff in publishing of work undertaken in their various departments

  • Identify research opportunities for APCA

  • Developing a repository of all APCA’s research and palliative care research in Africa for ease of reference and keeping track of research developments in Africa

Minimum Academic Qualifications:

Master’s degree in a health-related subject.

Required skills

Experience in research design, planning and implementation, data and project management, basic statistics, excellent scientific and proposal writing skills and writing for publication.
